Field Day Summer 2008

"Miami artists forgo conventional accolades for a chance to reap greater rewards in The Field."
-Mia Leonin, Miami Herald

Camposition and The Field/Miami celebrates the end of its Summer 2008 Field/Work session with its culminating Field/Day on Saturday, June 7 at 801 Projects and Camposition Studio. Fieldwork is a rigorous multi-week workshop designed to help artists gather information about their artwork before being shown to the public. Fieldwork workshops serve artists on a completely non-curated basis; group participants come from diverse disciplines, aesthetic viewpoints and levels of development.

The informal showing will include works by artists Becky Flowers, Andy Jean- Gilles, Laurie Scop, Bill Spring, and Josh Weiss. As The Field invites artists of all disciplines to participate, works presented will include performance art and lyrical contemporary dance as well as theatrical pieces.

In her work developed through this Field/Work session, performance artist Becky Flowers will present an excerpt from “100 Love Stories” addressing the trickle down effect of capitalism on our intimate relationships. Miami actor and writer, Andy Jean- Gilles will explore the harsh realities of life on the streets. Laurie Scop will present a new work of lyrical contemporary dance that reveals disturbing truths, arduous struggles, and miraculous outcomes. Known for his evocative and deeply emotional monologue performances, Bill Spring delivers a subversive work that intersperses personal intimacies with daily life. Through his performance piece, Josh Weiss will explore both the beauty and horror of life with the aim of redemption and the spirit of celebration.

Doors open at 8:01pm. A suggested donation of $8.01 will be accepted for the continuation of The Field/Miami workshops. For additional information, please contact Becky Flowers at flowersbecky@gmail.com.

This program is made possible with the support of Camposition, 801 Projects, Dade County Community Foundation, and The Field/ New York.
