“Days Without Sunshine” the Anita Bryant exhibit - In partnership with the Stonewall Library Archive in commemoration of the 40th Anniversary of Stonewall. This exhibit will be
open to the public one hour prior and post performance during the run of 1,000 Homosexuals:

On Sunday, November 23, 2008 a post-performance discussion with the cast and playwright will be moderated by Dr. Fred Fejas, author of the book

Gay Rights and Moral Panic: The Origins of America's Debate on Homosexuality.

About the book:
Are lesbians and gay men a “legitimate” minority?
In 1977-1978 voters across the county went to the polls in a series of referenda to decide whether lesbians and gay men were citizens deserving equal protection under the law—or perverts and outcasts. Gay Rights and Moral Panic recounts this nation-wide campaign against gay rights initiated by Anita Bryant. This campaign pitted the civil rights claims of America’s lesbians and gay men against society’s powerful beliefs and fears about homosexuality. The outcome produced the first national debate about gay rights and set the pattern that still shapes the controversy today.

About the author:
Fred Fejes is a member of the faculty of the School of Communications and Multimedia Studies at Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, Florida. His research and teaching includes media and society, sexuality and media. He has especially done research on the history of the lesbian and gay community in South Florida. He currently lives in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
